Ingredients
- Bread: 8 Gold Medal Bakery Hamburger Rolls
- Sloppy Joe Mixture:
- 2 lbs lean ground beef (85-90% lean)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1 large green bell pepper, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the beef and vegetables. Stir to combine.
- Add water to the skillet and bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Reduce heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency. Stir occasionally.
- While the mixture is simmering, lightly toast the Gold Medal Bakery hamburger rolls.
- Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted roll.
- Top with the other half of the roll.
- Serve the sloppy joes warm, perfect for a hearty and satisfying meal.
